Yang Jianhou · Biography
Yang Jianhou (1910–1993), courtesy name He Ye Cun Ren, was a distinguished Chinese painter and art educator from Wuxi, Jiangsu Province. A graduate of the Central University’s Department of Fine Arts in 1935, he studied under the renowned master Xu Beihong.
Throughout his career, Yang served as professor at Nanjing University and Nanjing Normal College, nurturing generations of artists. He was also active in cultural organizations, including the China Artists Association and the Jiangsu Federation of Literary and Art Circles.
Renowned for his elegant landscape, bird-and-flower, and figure paintings, Yang Jianhou’s art combined traditional brushwork with modern sensibility. His lifelong dedication to teaching, creation, and cultural service made him one of the notable figures in 20th-century Chinese painting.
